Honeywell DR4500

Product Overview
The Honeywell DR4500 is a microprocessor-based 12-inch circular chart recorder designed for continuous process recording, display, control, and communication in industrial environments. It is widely used in food processing, pharmaceuticals, heat treatment, environmental testing, manufacturing, and water/wastewater treatment. The DR4500 family includes Truline models that print their own chart on blank heat-sensitive paper, and Classic models that use traditional fiber-tip pens and pre-printed charts.

Working Principle
The DR4500 accepts analog process signals from field instruments such as temperature, pressure, flow, level, or pH transmitters. The microprocessor conditions and digitizes the signals, calculates engineering units, and drives the circular chart recording mechanism. In Truline models, a thermal pen prints the chart grid and up to four process traces on blank heat-sensitive paper. The recorder also displays process values, setpoints, alarms, and status information, and can output control signals through its PID controller and relay options.

Installation Requirements

  • Select the correct DR4500 model for the required inputs, outputs, and communication options.
  • Verify power supply voltage and frequency before wiring.
  • Use shielded cables for analog input signals.
  • Separate signal wiring from high-voltage power cables.
  • Ensure proper panel cutout dimensions for panel-mounted installations.
  • Provide adequate rear clearance for wiring and ventilation.
  • Ground the instrument according to local electrical codes.
  • Configure input type, range, alarm setpoints, and communication parameters before commissioning.

Precautions

  • Do not exceed the rated input signal range.
  • Use only compatible circular chart paper for the selected model.
  • Keep the chart compartment clean and dry.
  • Replace thermal paper rolls before they run out to avoid recording gaps.
  • Verify alarm and control outputs during startup testing.
  • Protect configuration settings with password lockout where required.
  • Confirm exact specifications from the official Honeywell DR4500 datasheet and nameplate, as capabilities vary by sub-model.
