ABB PM865K01

Product Brief: The PM865 is ABB’s high-performance AC 800M controller CPU, positioned above PM510/PM150 — it features a faster dual-core processor, larger memory (64 MB application / 128 MB Flash typical), and is the standard CPU for medium-to-large System 800xA DCS applications, as well as Freelance 2013+ with AC 800M option. The “K01” kit includes the PM865 CPU module + BC810 (or BC820) baseplate + sync cable + documentation — ready to mount in cabinet. The PM865 supports 1:1 hot-standby redundancy with sub-scan switchover and is SIL2-capable when engineered per IEC 61511 with S800 SIL I/O.

      • 1 × ModuleBus — direct local S800 I/O (TB807/TB820, ≤12 modules)
    • Redundancy: 1:1 hot-standby; primary/backup auto-sync via high-speed link; switchover < one scan
    • Power: From BC810/BC820 baseplate (24 V DC, typ. 18 W max per CPU)
    • LEDs: Run (green), Err (red), Sync (green on standby when synced), Com Act, Bat Low, Eth Link/Act per port
    • Operating Temp.: 0 °C to +60 °C
    • Mounting: BC810 (single) or BC820 (redundant pair) baseplate — leftmost slot
    • Certifications: CE, UL 61010-1, cULus, ATEX/IECEx Zone 2, SIL2 (with proper SIS engineering), marine (DNV/ABS/LR/BV)
    • Firmware: Compatible with Control Builder M (match version — e.g., FW 5.x ↔ CB M 5.x; FW 6.x ↔ CB M 6.x)
  • Functional Features:
    • IEC 61131-3 (FBD/LD/ST/IL/SFC); extended libraries for 800xA Batch, PMC (Process Management & Control)
    • Online download of qualified changes; major changes require cold restart (flagged in CB M)
    • Integrated OPC DA/HDA/AE server via 800xA Connectivity; direct MMS/GOOSE for IEC 61850 (with option)
    • Retentive vars, recipe handling, SFC for batch/sequential control
    • Time sync NTP/SNTP or IRIG-B; SOE time stamping 1 ms when sync’d
    • Extensive self-diagnostics uploaded to 800xA — I/O error rates, comm stats, watchdog events
    • Compatible with Advant OCS migration tools (function block conversion)
  • Application Scenarios:
    • Medium/large process units in System 800xA DCS — boiler/turbine BOP, reactor section, distillation columns, crackers
    • Plant-wide coordinated control with 10k+ I/O points and multiple I/O racks
    • Freelance 2013+ with AC 800M as central process controller (PM865 + S800 I/O)
    • Retrofit of Advant Controller 450 / S100 with performance upgrade & 800xA HMI
  • Material & Structure / Working Principle / Installation / Precautions: Same AC 800M architecture as PM510V16 but higher performance — refer to PM510V16 description for working principle; key differences:
    • BC820 baseplate REQUIRED for redundant pair (holds two CPUs + sync cable + dual PSU)
    • For redundancy: install two PM865 in BC820; connect sync cable; configure redundancy in project
    • Firmware version must exactly match Control Builder M version compatibility — always check ABB compatibility matrix before FW upgrade
    • Battery replacement every 3–5 years; keep application backup on 800xA server / USB stick
    • Precaution: Removing active CPU from redundant pair causes switchover — verify standby SYNC LED green before removal. For single CPU, power down before removal.
