ABB IMHSS03

Product Brief: The IMHSS03 (sometimes referenced as Harmony SOE Server / Historical Sequence Server) is a specialized INFI 90/ Harmony module that collects SOE records from IMFEC12 / IMFCS01 modules across multiple C.W. racks, time-synchronizes them to a common high-precision clock (IRIG-B or NTP), and makes them available to the plant SOE workstation / historian. It may also serve as a gateway for uploading historical trend data from Harmony controllers to a plant information network. In later Symphony Plus evolutions this function migrates to software (SOE Server in OPC server), but IMHSS03 was the hardware SOE concentrator in classic INFI 90 plants.

Description

ABB IMHSS03

  • Technical Specifications (typical):
    • Function: SOE event collection from up to N C.W. nodes (system-dependent — typically 32–64 SOE-capable modules); time-tag correlation to μs level via IRIG-B or NTP-referenced clock
    • Interfaces: C.W. bus (backplane connection to IEMMU21 rack); serial (RS-232/485) or Ethernet (10BaseT — on later revs) to SOE workstation / Plant Network
    • Time Synchronization: Accepts IRIG-B (AM or DC) time code input; alternatively NTP client mode
    • Memory: On-board SOE buffer (several thousand events) for temporary storage during network outage
    • Power: 5 V DC + 24 V DC from backplane
    • Indicators: Run, Fault, Com Active, IRIG-BLock LEDs
    • Operating Temp.: 0 °C to +60 °C
    • Mounting: Single slot in IEMMU21 (typically Slot 2 or 3 in a dedicated SOE/data rack)
  • Functional Features:
    • Merges SOE events from multiple racks into single chronological list
    • Time skew correction — compensates for C.W. propagation delay
    • Downloads event list to SOE viewer application on Windows-based plant network
    • Can also serve as gateway for downloading configuration / retrieving module diagnostics
  • Application Scenarios:
    • Power plant disturbance analysis — collect SOE from turbine trip contacts, breaker aux contacts, generator protection relays
    • Refinery incident investigation — sequence of valve position switches, pump trips, Hi-Hi level switches
    • Centralized SOE in multi-unit plant with several INFI 90 node pairs
  • Material & Structure / Working Principle / Installation / Precautions:
    • Install IMHSS03 in designated rack (often a dedicated data-collection rack with C.W. connection to plant nodes)
    • Connect IRIG-B time source (from GPS clock or plant master clock) to rear TB or front BNC as per version
    • Configure in INFI 90 Engineering Workbench — define SOE module list, time source, network parameters
    • Verify IRIG-BLock LED — no lock = SOE timestamps drift
    • Precaution: For reliable SOE, ALL SOE-capable modules (IMFEC12 etc.) must be time-synced via the same clock hierarchy — IMHSS03 only correlates, it cannot correct unsynced node clocks; ensure controller node pairs have NTP or IRIG-B discipline
