ABB NPOW-62C

Product Brief:

The NPOW-62C is the main system PSU for an Advant OCS node. It:

  • Accepts 24 V DC (18–30 V) from plant DC distribution (or from a diode-OR of two plant PSUs for N+1)
  • Produces:
    • 5 V DC (≤3 A typical) — powers Advant CPU, communication cards (NPBA-12, NPCT-01C), S100 bus logic
Category: SKU: ABB NPOW-62C

Description

ABB NPOW-62C

  • Technical Specifications:
    • Input: 24 V DC (18–32 V DC), typ. fused externally 5 A slow-blow
    • Output:
      • 5 V DC: 3 A max (some versions 4 A) — regulation ±2 %
      • 24 V DC UP: Pass-through from input (current-limited by input fuse & thermal), typical max 2–4 A total for I/O modules (sum all S100 module logic + DO coil current)
    • Hold-up Time: ≥20 ms @ full load
    • Redundancy: Yes — up to 2 NPOW-62C diode-OR in same rack
    • Alarm Contact: 1 × SPDT (form C) — rated 1 A @ 30 V DC / 0.5 A @ 250 V AC
    • Mounting: Advant 450 rack PSU slot (left side of rack) or DIN rail (with adapter — some versions)
    • Operating Temp.: 0 °C to +55 °C (–20 °C to +70 °C storage)
    • Dimensions: ≈100 mm (W) × 265 mm (H) × 180 mm (D) — fits Advant rack
    • Certifications: CE, UL, cUL, marine (DNV etc.)
  • Functional Features / Application / Material / Structure / Working Principle / Installation / Precautions:
    • Used in every Advant 450 / MasterPiece 200 node — size PSU for:
      • CPU + Com cards (~0.5–1 A @5 V)
      • S100 I/O modules (each DI/AI ~50–100 mA logic; each DO relay coil if powered from UP terminal ~30–50 mA × #energized)
      • Rule of thumb: ∑(S100 module 5 V current) ≤ NPOW 5 V rating; ∑(DO coil current + AI excitation) ≤ UP current rating (typically 2–3 A)
    • Install: connect plant 24 V DC (+ / –) to NPOW input terminals → verify Input & 5 V OK LEDs → connect S100 bus from NPOW to first S100 TU (or to CI520A if AC 800M + S100)
    • For redundant: install 2 × NPOW-62C → both input from plant DC (ideally separate feeds or diode-OR ahead) → system auto-selects; alarm contacts of both wired to annunciator (any one fails → alarm)
    • Precaution: Do NOT exceed UP current — if many DO relay modules (SPDO13) energized simultaneously >UP rating → voltage sag → DI/AI mis-read. In large racks split DO load across multiple racks each with own NPOW, or use external 24 V DC for DO loads (some DO modules allow external UP — check TB567 jumper). Verify fuse on plant 24 V DC sized for inrush (NPOW has soft-start but input inrush <2 × steady).
    • Keep spare NPOW-62C if critical — PSU electrolytic caps age (~10–12 yr); periodic PM check of output voltages & alarm contact function.
