- Connect Profibus cable A/B to D-sub pin 3 (B = Data+) & pin 8 (A = Data−); pin 1+4+6 often +5 V (not used for DP); pin 5 = shield (connect to connector shell → earth)
- In Control Builder M / Advant Eng Tool: add CI854A → assign node address (unique on Profibus net, 1–126) → import GSD of slave devices → configure I/O mapping → download
- Terminate both ends of Profibus segment with 220 Ω resistor (built-in on some connectors; otherwise external)
- Precaution: Reversing A/B wires prevents communication — double-check polarity. Always use shielded twisted-pair (Profibus cable type A per IEC 61784-5-3). Do NOT forget termination resistors at both physical ends. For DP-V1 parameter access ensure acyclic message timeout in logic is set appropriately.
