ABB SPASO11

Product Brief: In the SPA relay system (used with SPAJ140, SPAU140, SRET…, SPACOM etc.), the IED itself has some built-in outputs. For larger panels (multiple trip circuits — main1/main2, close, alarm, healthy, lockout) an expansion output module SPASO11 is added on the DIN rail or into the SPA rack backplane. It receives opto-commands from the main IED (via internal bus or hard-wired enable) and closes its heavy-duty relay contacts (5 A / 250 V AC) to drive breaker trip coils, close circuits, or alarm annunciators. It may also contain the power supply module (SPAUP…) for the SPA rack in some configurations — “SPASO11” sometimes bundled as output module + PSU in a panel set.

Description

ABB SPASO11

  • Technical Specifications (typical SPASO11 output module):
    • Output Contacts: 4–8 × SPDT or SPST-NO (Form A / C) — rated 5 A @ 250 V AC / 30 V DC (make & break)
    • Control Input: From SPA IED via internal bus (plug-in backplane) or via opto-isolated command input (model dep.)
    • Power Supply: 24 V DC (from SPA rack PSU or external); typical module consumption ≤2 W
    • Indicators: LED per output (On/Off)
    • Mounting: DIN rail 35 mm or SPA rack backplane slot
    • Operating Temp.: –20 °C to +55 °C
    • Dimensions: ≈22.5 mm (W) × 90 mm (H) × 70 mm (D) (typical DIN module width)
  • Functional Features / Application / Material / Structure / Working Principle / Installation / Precautions:
    • Used to expand trip/alarm contact count beyond what’s on SPAJ140 main unit (which has 2 Trip + Alarm + Healthy typically)
    • For critical breakers: use SPASO11 Trip contact in series with main IED Trip contact → both must close (=2oo2 voting) or parallel per scheme
    • Wire Trip output in series with DC supply → breaker trip coil → sealing / anti-pump contact
    • Test via SPA IED’s test mode — command output ON/OFF & verify contact operation
    • Precaution: Verify contact rating vs. breaker trip coil inrush — if >5 A make/break required consider external auxiliary tripping relay (ABB K-series or Finder/Weidmüller heavy-duty) driven by SPASO11 contact. Keep SPASO11 supply fused & monitored (PS fail → all outputs de-energized → safe state per design).
