- Used whenever S800 I/O is remote from AC 800M CPU (different cabinet / field location) — local I/O uses direct ModuleBus cable (TK801V006) — no CI840A needed for local rack
- Install CI840A into CEX slot of CPU baseplate → connect HN800 cable to Port A (first node) or both A & B if redundant bus
- In Control Builder M: define “S800 I/O Station” → assign CI840A node address (unique on HN800) → add I/O modules per remote rack → download → verify Com LED flashes (cyclic activity)
- Precaution: Terminate HN800 bus at both ends with 120 Ω (built-in jumper on CI840A or external resistor plug). Verify fiber polarity (Tx→Rx). Firmware on CI840A must match system release — if mismatch, Control Builderwill prompt to download correct FW. For redundant pair: both CI840As identical FW; after first download standby auto-syncs I/O image from primary’s CI840A via backplane.
- Keep spare (or TB840Aas cataloged) — field replacement is hot-swap (controller remains in RUN if redundant pair; single — brief I/O loss until re-init).
