ABB TP01

Product Brief: The TP01 is an accessory cooling fan used when the natural convection of the AC 800M baseplate / cabinet is insufficient — e.g.:

  • Cabinet ambient >40 °C (approaching 55 °C max — derating zone)
  • Multiple high-power modules (PM866 + CI854 + 2×SD823) in same confined space with little natural draft
  • Enclosed cubicle without forced cabinet ventilation

The fan draws air across the CPU heat-sink & baseplate fins, extending allowable ambient or preventing thermal throttling. It is typically DIN-rail mounted just above the controller baseplate and powered from the same 24 V DC PSU (or from a separate 24 V DC source).

Description

ABB TP01

  • Technical Specifications (typical TP01 fan kit):
    • Type: 24 V DC axial fan (ball-bearing for long life), sometimes supplied with finger guard & DIN-rail clip
    • Airflow: ≈20–40 CFM (dep. on model — enough to create longitudinal flow across BC820)
    • Power: 24 V DC (18–30 V), typ. 2–5 W
    • Noise: ≤35–40 dBA
    • MTBF: ≥50,000 h @ 40 °C
    • Mounting: DIN rail 35 mm (clip on fan housing) or screw-mount via flange — positioned to pull/push air across CPU heat-sink
    • Operating Temp.: –10 °C to +60 °C (fan itself); intended to keep CPU env <+55 °C
    • Dimensions: ≈40 × 40 × 28 mm (fan) + DIN clip assembly
    • Indicators: Usually none — fan runs when 24 V applied; some versions have tach output (not monitored by ABB system typically)
  • Functional Features / Application / Material / Structure / Working Principle / Installation / Precautions:
    • Not mandatory for most installations — AC 800M is convection-cooled & rated to +60 °C ambient with derating above +40 °C; TP01 used when:
      • Cabinet ambient regularly >40 °C
      • High module density in same cubicle with other heat sources (VFDs, PSUs)
      • Customer spec requires forced air on electronics
    • Mount TP01 on DIN rail directly above BC810/BC820 — orient so airflow passes over CPU heat-sink fins (typically blow DOWN across modules or suck UP — follow arrow on fan housing)
    • Connect 24 V DC (fused, typ. 0.5 A slow-blow) — can be same PSU feeding PPD113 / CI840A — ensure total PSU load calc includes fan
    • Verify fan spins on power-up (listen / feel airflow)
    • Precautions:
      • Periodically check fan operation (annual PM) — if fan fails in high-ambient cab the CPU may overtemp & fault (rare — CPU has internal thermal shutdown but better to catch fan fail)
      • Do NOT obstruct air intake/exhaust — keep ≥50 mm clearance front/back of fan path
      • If ambient is consistently ≤40 °C with good natural convection — TP01 not needed; can be omitted to reduce noise & MTBF concern
      • For hazardous / wash-down areas: verify fan ingress rating (some TP01 versions IP20 — fine inside cabinet; if cabinet is washed down ensure cabinet IP rating protects fan)
