Working Principle The housing serves as a mechanical mounting platform and environmental barrier for the eddy-current proximity probe. The reverse mount probe is threaded into the internal sleeve from the housing interior, with the probe tip facing inward toward the machine shaft. The sleeve length and standoff adapter combine to position the probe tip at the correct distance from the target surface. As the shaft rotates, the probe detects changes in the eddy-current field induced in the metal surface, generating a voltage signal proportional to the gap distance. The housing maintains this critical geometric relationship while protecting the probe and cable from external contaminants, pressure, and mechanical damage.
Installation Requirements
- Machine mounting boss must be machined with 3/4-14 NPT threads perpendicular to shaft centerline
- Minimum of 5 full threads of NPT engagement required for pressure containment
- Apply industrial thread sealant to mounting threads for pressurized lubricant applications
- Total penetration depth of 10.2 inches requires verification of internal machine clearance
- For penetration lengths exceeding 12 inches, additional sleeve support must be added near the probe to prevent resonance
- Route probe cable through conduit entry and connect to extension cable using provided cable seal grip
- Adjust probe gap while monitoring output voltage with digital voltmeter until -10 Vdc is achieved
Usage Precautions
- Sleeve lengths longer than 304 mm require additional support to reduce vibration
