Working Principle: The 3300/45 receives voltage signals from proximity probes mounted axially to measure the distance between the probe tip and the shaft thrust collar. The probe generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field, and as the conductive shaft surface moves axially, eddy currents are induced in the shaft material, changing the probe coil impedance. The proximitor converts this impedance change into a DC voltage signal proportional to the gap distance. The monitor processes this signal to determine the shaft axial position and compares it against programmed alarm thresholds. When axial displacement exceeds the Alert or Danger limits, relay outputs are activated to initiate protective actions.
Installation Requirements:
- Mount in a compatible 3300/3500 series equipment rack slot
- Use 3300 XL proximity transducer systems with proper system length matching
- Shielded three-conductor cable from proximitor to monitor, shield grounded at one end only
- Probes must be mounted with rigid mechanical support to prevent measurement error
- Gap setting must be verified using micrometer or dial indicator during commissioning
Usage Notes:
- Confirm sensor type and system length match the monitor configuration
- Verify gap voltage is within the specified range (typically -9VDC at 1.27mm gap for 8mm probes)
- Regularly check front panel LED indicators for normal operation
- Module supports hot-swap replacement without affecting other system modules
- Alarm thresholds must be set based on thrust bearing clearance specifications
- Signal cables must be routed away from power cables to avoid electromagnetic interference
