Functional Features The probe delivers a 7.87 V/mm output for non-contacting vibration and displacement measurements on fluid film bearing machines. The gold-plated brass connector ensures secure electrical connection under vibration. The probe is fully interchangeable with other 3300 XL 8 mm system components without matching or calibration.
Application Scenarios Radial vibration monitoring on turbines, compressors, pumps, and motors, axial thrust position measurements, tachometer and zero speed measurements, phase reference Keyphasor signals, rod position and rod drop measurements on reciprocating compressors.
Performance Parameters The Incremental Scale Factor is 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) ±10% including interchangeability error over the 2.0 mm linear range. Deviation from best fit straight line is less than ±0.025 mm. The system maintains accuracy within specifications across the full operating temperature range.
Material Composition Probe tip is polyphenylene sulfide (PPS). Probe case is AISI 304 stainless steel. The cable is 75 Ω triaxial with fluoroethylene propylene (FEP) insulation. Connector material is gold-plated brass.
Structural Characteristics The probe features a standard forward mount configuration with 3/8-24 UNF thread. The 2.8 inch unthreaded length positions the sensing element at the correct distance from the mounting surface. The extended 3.95 meter cable provides direct connection capability for remote installations.
Working Principle The probe operates on the eddy current principle. A high-frequency RF signal from the Proximitor Sensor is applied to the probe tip. When the probe is placed near a conductive target, eddy currents are induced in the target surface. The resulting energy loss is detected and converted into a DC voltage proportional to the gap distance between the probe tip and the target surface.
Installation Requirements Mount the probe through a threaded hole using the supplied lock nut. The recommended mounting torque is 11.2 N·m (100 in·lbf). Position the probe tip at the recommended gap of 1.27 mm from the target surface. The probe must be used with a matching electrical length extension cable and Proximitor Sensor.
Usage Precautions Do not operate the probe below -34°C (-30°F) to avoid pressure seal degradation. The probe is not pressure tested prior to shipment. Avoid bending the cable tighter than the 25.4 mm minimum bend radius. Protect connectors from moisture in humid environments.
