Functional Features The 50 mm Proximitor Sensor delivers the longest linear range available in the Bently Nevada proximity transducer product line. The large diameter coil enables measurement of differential expansion on the largest steam turbine generators. The panel mount configuration provides traditional mounting in control panels or equipment enclosures. The sensor is fully interchangeable with other 3300 XL 50 mm system components.
Application Scenarios Differential expansion measurement on large steam turbine generators, rotor expansion monitoring on heavy-duty turbines, large compressor axial position measurement, generator bearing position monitoring, heavy industrial pump monitoring, power plant rotating equipment condition monitoring.
Performance Parameters The sensor outputs a DC voltage proportional to the gap distance with 394 mV/mm sensitivity. The linear measurement range is 27.9 mm, the longest in the eddy current transducer line. Over a probe temperature range of -35°C to +120°C with the Proximitor Sensor and extension cable between 0°C to +45°C, the deviation from best fit straight line remains within ±2.03 mm. The recommended minimum target size is 102 mm diameter for flat targets.
Material Composition The housing is constructed from A380 aluminum. The connector material is gold-plated brass. The terminal strips feature SpringLoc design for reliable field wiring connections.
Structural Characteristics The sensor features a compact housing suitable for panel mounting. The mounting base provides electrical isolation and eliminates the need for separate isolator plates. The sensor includes coaxial system connectors for probe and extension cable connection. The housing is compatible with standard industrial control panels.
Working Principle The Proximitor Sensor generates a high-frequency RF signal that is transmitted to the probe tip through the extension cable. The probe tip creates an electromagnetic field that induces eddy currents in the conductive target surface. The resulting energy loss is detected by the Proximitor Sensor and converted into a DC voltage output directly proportional to the physical gap distance between the probe tip and the target.
