Emerson KJ2221X1-BA1

Product Introduction Emerson KJ2221X1-BA1 is the safety instrumented system digital input card for DeltaV SIS system. It reads field switch signals from emergency shutdown valves, pressure switches, level switches and safety related contacts. The module performs safety-related signal acquisition, channel self-test and fault diagnosis. It meets safety integrity level requirements for process safety protection. Collected digital status is sent to SIS logic solver for emergency interlock judgment to prevent hazardous process incidents.

Emerson KJ2221X1-BA1

Technical Specifications

  • Number of channels: 16 safety digital input channels
  • Supported signal: 24VDC wet contact / passive dry contact
  • Safety certification: Meets SIL2 safety integrity level
  • Operating ambient temperature: 0℃ ~ 60℃
  • Storage temperature: -40℃ ~ 85℃
  • Relative humidity: 5% ~ 95%, non-condensing
  • Built-in periodic channel diagnostic test
  • Backplane communication: SIS dedicated safety bus

Functional Features Each channel carries out automatic periodic self-test to detect circuit fault and wiring failure. Dual-circuit signal acquisition structure improves signal reliability for safety function. Channel-level fault diagnosis detects wire break, short circuit and internal hardware failure and reports fault to SIS system. Optical isolation separates field side and SIS backplane to block surge interference. Front panel LED indicators display real-time status for each safety channel. Hot-swap function supports online replacement under non-hazardous process condition.

Application Scenarios Safety instrumented system cabinets in petrochemical, chemical and power plants. Collect safety switch status for ESD emergency shutdown system, fire and gas protection system.

Performance Parameters

  • Periodic self-test completes channel diagnosis without interrupting safety function
  • Safety signal acquisition maintains high diagnostic coverage for hardware fault
  • Optical isolation withstands high common mode voltage from field safety wiring
  • Backplane safety communication ensures integrity of safety data transmission
  • Hardware fault response meets safety system response time requirement

Material Composition Flame-retardant engineering plastic housing. Multi-layer flame-retardant glass fiber epoxy PCB substrate. Optical isolation chips, safety signal sampling circuits, diagnostic microprocessor and LED indicators. Gold-plated copper alloy backplane connector. Matching terminal base uses flame-retardant PA plastic and nickel-plated copper wiring terminals.

Structural Features Standard DeltaV SIS rack plug-in card structure for SIS I/O rack slots. Front panel equips module fault LED and individual LED indicators for all 16 safety channels. Guide rails and mechanical latches fix module in rack and resist vibration. Rear gold-plated connector mates with SIS rack safety backplane bus. Front terminal base accepts field safety switch wiring.

Working Principle Field safety switch contacts connect to terminal base and send signal to module input circuit. Optical isolation isolates field wiring from SIS safety backplane. Dual sampling circuit reads switch state and sends data to onboard safety processor. The processor executes automatic periodic diagnostic test for each channel to check hardware integrity and wiring condition. Valid safety status data is transmitted to SIS logic solver through safety backplane bus. Any detected fault triggers fault alarm and executes predefined safety diagnostic action.

Installation Requirements Insert the module along guide rail into DeltaV SIS rack slot and lock mechanical latch. Use shielded twisted pair cables for safety signal wiring. Cable shield connects to cabinet ground at single end. Separate safety signal cables from non-safety control cables. Reserve ventilation space around the module. Complete safety loop proof test after hardware installation.

Precautions for Use Cut off field safety loop power before wiring. Do not mix safety signal wiring with non-safety circuit cables. Complete safety function verification after module replacement. Do not bypass channel diagnostic function. Perform periodic proof test according to safety operation procedure. Do not disassemble module housing.
