Emerson P144

Product Introduction P144 is an intelligent pneumatic valve positioner from the Emerson Fisher FIELDVUE family. The device receives a 4 to 20 mA control signal and precisely controls control valve travel, with built-in HART communication for remote diagnosis of valve status and performance. It mounts directly on pneumatic control valves for precise regulation in petrochemical, refining, and chemical process control.

Working Principle The 4 to 20 mA control signal is compared with valve position feedback. Any deviation drives the nozzle-flapper to change pneumatic output pressure, moving the actuator. The position sensor continuously feeds back valve travel, and closed-loop regulation makes travel equal the setpoint. HART superimposed on 4 to 20 mA transmits configuration and diagnostic data.

Installation Requirements

  • Direct mount on valve bracket
  • Connect feedback linkage to valve stem
  • Clean dry instrument air
  • 4 to 20 mA loop supply
  • Wiring per explosion-proof rules in hazardous areas
  • Temperature -40 °C to +85 °C
  • Run automatic stroke calibration after power-up
  • Grounding

Precautions

  • Instrument air must be filtered and dry
  • Feedback linkage must not be over-tight
  • Follow explosion-proof maintenance rules
  • Periodically calibrate zero and span
  • Store spares in dry environment
  • Clean gauge glass
