Structural Characteristics Standard Ovation I/O card form factor. Gold plated edge connector on rear side plugs into rack backplane. Front panel integrates extraction handle and LED status indicators. The PCB separates field analog resistance measurement circuit and digital backplane communication circuit to reduce electromagnetic crosstalk. Each channel adopts independent signal conditioning circuit.
Working Principle Constant current excitation signal is sent to the connected RTD sensor. The module measures the voltage drop generated by the sensor resistance. Signal conditioning circuit filters noise and amplifies the weak signal. The A/D converter converts analog resistance signal into digital value. The module calculates temperature value according to the RTD characteristic curve. The processed temperature data is uploaded to the Ovation controller through backplane bus. The module continuously monitors channel resistance value and triggers fault alarm when wire break or short circuit occurs.
Installation Requirements
- Align VE4003S2B4 card with rack guide slot, insert steadily until backplane connector fully engages. Lock front panel handle to secure module.
- Run shielded twisted pair cable for RTD sensors. Separate temperature signal cable from high voltage power cable.
- Select wiring type and sensor type for each channel in Ovation engineering workstation.
- Perform loop calibration and point test after wiring completion before commissioning.
- Ensure cabinet protective grounding connection is reliable, grounding resistance less than 4 ohms.
- Keep cabinet ventilation path unobstructed to maintain stable operating temperature.
Usage Precautions
- Do not connect voltage signal to RTD input terminals. Overvoltage burns channel conditioning circuit.
- Use 4-wire wiring mode for high precision temperature measurement to minimize cable resistance impact.
- Hot swap operation must strictly follow official Ovation maintenance operating procedure.
- Do not touch gold plated backplane connector pins by hand. Finger grease causes poor contact and signal error.
- No field repairable components. Replace the whole module when internal circuit fails.
- Prevent metal debris falling into rack slot during installation.
