Emerson VS3202

Product Brief Introduction: VS3202 is Ovation DCS vibration monitor input module optimized for heavy-duty rotating machinery protection. It receives vibration and shaft position signals from eddy current proximity probes and velocity transducers. The module extracts vibration displacement, velocity and shaft gap data, converts analog waveform into digital values and transmits data to Ovation controller through rack backplane bus. It provides high-speed vibration monitoring for critical rotating equipment and supports configurable alarm and trip thresholds.

Structural Characteristics Standard Ovation I/O card form factor. Rear gold plated edge connector plugs into rack backplane. Front panel has extraction handle and LED indicator window. PCB separates analog vibration measurement circuit and digital communication circuit to reduce electromagnetic interference. Each channel uses independent signal conditioning and probe power supply circuit.

Working Principle VS3202 provides high frequency excitation power to eddy current proximity probe. Relative movement between probe and rotating shaft changes eddy current field and generates proportional AC analog signal. Signal conditioning circuit filters interference and amplifies weak waveform. High speed A/D converter converts analog vibration signal to digital data. Onboard processor computes vibration displacement and shaft gap. Data transmits to Ovation controller via backplane bus. Module continuously checks signal integrity and raises alarm when sensor fault or vibration threshold exceedance occurs.

Installation Requirements

  1. Insert VS3202 along rack guide rail, push fully and lock front handle.
  2. Use specified low capacitance coaxial cable for proximity probe wiring. Separate vibration signal cable from high voltage power cable.
  3. Configure sensor type, cable length parameter and alarm threshold in Ovation engineering workstation.
  4. Complete loop calibration and point test before online commissioning.
  5. Ensure cabinet protective grounding is reliable, grounding resistance less than 4 ohms.
  6. Keep cabinet ventilation path unobstructed.

Usage Precautions

  1. Do not connect high voltage signal to vibration input terminals. Overvoltage burns channel circuit and probe power supply.
  2. Use exact cable length setting matching actual probe cable. Incorrect capacitance setting creates measurement error.
  3. Hot swap must follow Ovation official maintenance procedure.
  4. Do not touch gold plated connector pins by hand.
  5. No field repairable components. Replace entire module after failure.
  6. Prevent metal debris falling into rack slot during installation.
