Honeywell 05704 A-0145

Product Introduction 05704 A-0145 is an ultraviolet flame sensing probe used with Honeywell burner amplifier modules. It senses ultraviolet radiation emitted by hydrocarbon flames such as natural gas, fuel oil and refinery gas. It converts UV light energy into electrical pulse signals and transmits the signal to matching flame amplifier units. It is designed for harsh high-temperature furnace environments and serves as the primary flame sensing element of burner management systems.

Description

Honeywell 05704 A-0145

Technical Specifications Spectral response range is ultraviolet band from 185nm to 260nm Maximum permissible bulb temperature is 125℃ Recommended viewing angle is 90 degrees Wiring connection matches 05701 series amplifier modules Shock resistance rating is 10G Operating ambient temperature at the mounting base ranges from -40℃ to 85℃ Storage temperature -50℃ to 90℃ It has built-in quartz UV-transparent window

Functional Features It selectively detects UV radiation from combustion flames and ignores infrared thermal radiation from hot furnace walls. It generates pulse current proportional to UV intensity when flame exists. It responds rapidly to sudden flame extinction. The quartz window resists thermal shock. It can work in environments with vibration from burners and fans. It supports visual alignment during installation to target the flame core.

Application Scenarios Flame sensing for gas and oil burners of industrial boilers Flame detection for process heaters in oil refineries Combustion monitoring for chemical reformer furnaces Flame detection for incinerators treating hazardous waste Burner flame supervision for hot air generators

Performance Parameters Flame detection response speed reaches millisecond level Quartz window maintains high UV transmittance over long operating periods The sensor tube has long service life under normal clean flame conditions It is immune to most visible light sources

Material Composition Sensing core is gas-filled ultraviolet phototube Optical window is high-purity fused quartz Sensor housing uses heat-resistant stainless steel alloy Mounting thread is stainless steel Internal wire leads use high-temperature PTFE insulation

Structural Characteristics Cylindrical probe body with external pipe thread for burner sighting port installation Quartz window is located at the front tip facing the flame The rear body contains the phototube assembly and wiring terminals It is fitted with compression fittings for sealing against furnace pressure It can be equipped with optional air purge fittings to prevent soot contamination on the window

Working Principle Ultraviolet rays released during fuel combustion penetrate the quartz window and enter the UV phototube inside the probe. UV photons ionize the gas inside the tube, creating intermittent pulse current. The pulse signal travels through the shielded cable to the flame amplifier module. The amplifier interprets these pulses as valid flame presence. Without UV radiation from flame, no pulse signal is produced, indicating flame loss.

Installation Requirements Install the probe sight port directly towards the stable combustion zone of the flame Ensure the sight path is not blocked by refractory, pipes or burner components Install air purge accessory if the furnace produces heavy soot Keep the probe base away from direct radiant heat to stay within temperature rating Use shielded twisted pair cable for signal transmission

Usage Notes Prevent mechanical impact on the quartz window Clean window soot deposits during regular shutdown maintenance Do not use the sensor to detect non-UV emitting flames such as coke oven gas with low UV output Replace the phototube assembly when sensitivity degrades after long operation
