Working Principle
The E1418A receives digital commands from a VXI controller through the VXIbus backplane. Each channel can be programmed for voltage or current output using SCPI commands such as APPLy, VOLTage, and CURRent. The internal DAC generates the requested analog value, and the output stage drives the load within compliance limits. The output relay can be opened or closed using OUTPut commands, allowing safe mode changes and output control. Calibration constants stored in non-volatile memory maintain output accuracy over time.
Installation Requirements
- Install the module in a compatible VXI mainframe.
- Ensure the VXI chassis power and cooling meet module requirements.
- Verify that the VXI controller supports the E1418A.
- Use appropriate cables for voltage and current connections.
- Confirm load impedance and compliance limits before enabling output.
- Install required drivers or SCPI support software.
- Perform calibration checks according to maintenance procedures.
Precautions for Use
- Do not exceed the ±16 V voltage range.
- Do not exceed the ±20 mA current range.
- Verify load compatibility before enabling output.
- Use caution when switching between voltage and current mode.
- Disable output before changing channel configuration.
- Avoid writing directly to non-volatile calibration registers unless qualified.
- Use the SCPI driver for calibration when available.
- Keep firmware and driver software up to date.
