Description
Motorola MVME162-763
Technical Specifications
- Processor: 32 MHz MC68040 or MC68LC040 enhanced 32-bit microprocessor.
- Memory: 16MB ECC (Error-Correcting Code) DRAM for maximum data integrity.
- Bus Interface: A32/D64 VMEbus master/slave interface with system controller functionality.
- Storage Resources: 512KB battery-backed SRAM and 1MB Flash memory.
Functional Features
- High-Performance Processing: Integrated 8KB cache, Memory Management Unit (MMU), and Floating-Point Unit (FPU).
- Data Protection: Hardware-level ECC DRAM prevents data corruption from memory bit-flips.
- High-Speed Transfer: Supports high-performance DMA for VMEbus D64 and local bus memory burst cycles.
- Non-Volatile Storage: Equipped with 8K x 8 NVRAM and a battery-backed Time-of-Day (TOD) clock.
Application Scenarios
Ideal for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, industrial automation control, railway transportation subsystems, aerospace ground systems, and laboratory test stands requiring high reliability.
Performance Parameters
- Serial Communication: Two serial ports (one EIA-232-D DCE console port; one user-configurable EIA-232-D/EIA-422 port).
- Expansion Interfaces: Four 16-bit or two 32-bit IndustryPack (IP) ports with DMA channels.
- Timers: Six 32-bit programmable tick timers and one hardware watchdog timer.
Material Composition
Constructed with multi-layer industrial-grade printed circuit boards (PCBs), conformal coating for harsh environment protection, high-reliability integrated circuits, DRAM chips, and solid-state capacitors.
Structural Characteristics
Standard 6U Double-high VME form factor (approx. 233mm x 160mm). Features standard VME P1/P2 backplane connectors, front-panel status LEDs, and physical ABORT/RESET pushbutton switches.
Working Principle
The MC68040 processor communicates with the MCchip and VMEchip2 ASICs via the local bus. The MCchip manages serial ports, LAN, SCSI, and DRAM parity/ECC protection, while the VMEchip2 handles VME bus protocol translation, DMA transfers, and IndustryPack interface control.
Installation Requirements
- Must be inserted into a standard 6U VME card cage slot and secured with front-panel screws.
- Forced-air cooling is mandatory; ensure unobstructed airflow (typically 30-50 LFM per slot).
- Backplane must provide stable +5V, +12V, and -12V DC power.
Usage Precautions
- Always wear an anti-static wrist strap when handling the board to prevent electrostatic discharge damage.
- Never insert or remove the board while the system is powered on (non-hot-swappable).
- Periodically check the backup battery voltage for NVRAM and SRAM to prevent configuration loss.
