Description
Motorola MVME2303
Technical Specifications
- Microprocessor: MPC603 PowerPC processor operating at 200 MHz.
- Memory: 16MB to 128MB of ECC-protected DRAM.
- Flash Memory: Up to 5MB of Flash storage (4MB surface-mount and 1MB PLCC socket).
- Bus Interface: 6U VMEbus compliant via P1 and P2 connectors.
Functional Features
- PMC Expansion: Features two IEEE P1386.1 PMC slots supporting single or double-width PCI mezzanine cards.
- Connectivity: Front panel includes two RJ45 connectors for 10/100Base-T Ethernet and a debug serial port.
- Scalability: Optional PCI expansion mezzanine modules (PMCspan) allow up to four additional PMCs.
- Reliability: Utilizes the Falcon chipset for dual-interleaved memory access with single-bit error correction and double-bit error detection.
Application Scenarios
Extensively deployed in aerospace, defense electronics, industrial automation, semiconductor manufacturing, and mission-critical test and measurement systems.
Performance Parameters
- Operating Temperature: 0°C to 55°C inlet air with forced-air cooling.
- Storage Temperature: -40°C to +85°C.
- Power Requirements: Typical +5Vdc draw is 4A, with a maximum of 4.75A (excluding PMC power).
Material Composition
Constructed with multi-layer industrial-grade PCBs. Critical integrated circuits are covered with a protective conformal coating to withstand moisture, dust, and corrosive gases.
Structural Characteristics
Standard 6U VME European card form factor occupying a single slot. The front panel provides reset/abort switches, status LEDs, and external I/O interfaces.
Working Principle
The MPC603 processor connects to the local PCI bus via the Raven PCI bridge ASIC and to the ISA bus via the W83C553 bridge. The Universe ASIC routes data between the PCI local bus and the VMEbus. The processor fetches external data, performs real-time computations using high-bandwidth memory, and outputs results via Ethernet or serial ports.
Installation Requirements
- Must be installed in a VME64 standard chassis backplane.
- Requires at least 100 CFM axial fan forced-air cooling.
- Insert into the backplane by aligning with the guide rails and applying even pressure to prevent pin bending.
Usage Precautions
- Strictly adhere to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection protocols.
- Ensure system power is completely disconnected before insertion or removal.
- Periodically check the NVRAM backup battery to prevent configuration data loss.
