NI SCXI-1300

Product Overview
The NI SCXI-1300 is a shielded screw-terminal block designed for connecting field signals to NI SCXI signal conditioning modules. It provides convenient access to analog inputs, outputs, reference pins and chassis ground through screw terminals. The terminal block includes an onboard temperature sensor that supports cold-junction compensation for thermocouple measurements. It is commonly used with SCXI-1100 series modules and other compatible SCXI signal conditioning hardware.

Working Principle
The SCXI-1300 connects field wiring to an SCXI signal conditioning module through screw terminals. Differential signals are routed to the corresponding module inputs, while ground and reference terminals provide common reference points. The onboard temperature sensor measures terminal block temperature and outputs 10 mV/°C. This voltage can be read by the SCXI module for cold-junction compensation when thermocouples are used. The shielded construction helps reduce noise coupling into sensitive analog signals.

Installation Requirements

  • Attach the terminal block to a compatible SCXI module according to NI instructions.
  • Use wire sizes between 26 AWG and 16 AWG.
  • Tighten screw terminals to the recommended torque.
  • Avoid referencing a thermocouple to ground at more than one point.
  • Keep signal wiring separated from high-voltage and high-current cables.
  • Configure the temperature sensor jumper for MTS or DTS mode as required.
  • Verify that the SCXI module supports the selected terminal block configuration.
  • Ensure the operating environment remains within 0 °C to 50 °C.

Precautions for Use

  • Do not apply voltages beyond the rating of the connected SCXI module.
  • Avoid ground loops when measuring thermocouple signals.
  • Use only one temperature sensor mode at a time.
  • Keep the terminal block clean and free from conductive contamination.
  • Do not force connectors during installation or removal.
  • Verify jumper settings before enabling the temperature sensor.
  • Replace damaged terminal blocks rather than repairing internal circuits.
  • Refer to the official NI SCXI-1300 user manual for wiring diagrams and sensor configuration details.
