Description
Woodward 8516-179
Technical Specifications
- Brand: Woodward
- Part Number: 8516-179
- Product Type: Pressure Regulating Actuator
- Actuation Type: Electro-hydraulic or Electro-pneumatic (depending on specific configuration)
Functional Features
- High Force Output: Generates substantial mechanical force to overcome high line pressures and valve friction.
- Linear Positioning: Provides highly linear stroke-to-signal relationship for predictable control.
- Fail-Safe Capability: Designed with spring-return or fail-safe mechanisms to secure the valve in a safe position upon loss of power or signal.
Application Scenarios
Deployed in fuel gas pressure regulation, steam pressure control, and hydraulic governing systems on industrial turbines and engines.
Performance Parameters
- Positioning Accuracy: Exceptional repeatability and minimal hysteresis.
- Dynamic Response: Fast step-response to accommodate rapid load changes.
Material Composition
Housed in a rugged cast iron or steel enclosure with precision-machined internal spools, high-performance seals, and corrosion-resistant coatings.
Structural Characteristics
Features a cylindrical or rectangular industrial profile with integrated position feedback transducers (LVDT) and high-pressure fluid/pneumatic ports.
Working Principle
An electrical control signal commands an internal pilot valve. The pilot valve directs high-pressure fluid (oil or air) into the main actuator cylinder, moving the piston against a spring. The integrated LVDT provides continuous position feedback to the controller for closed-loop regulation.
Installation Requirements
Must be mechanically linked to the control valve with proper alignment to prevent binding. Fluid or pneumatic lines must be properly filtered and routed.
Usage Precautions
Ensure the supply pressure matches the actuator’s rated operating pressure. Bleed air from hydraulic lines before commissioning. Perform regular stroke testing to verify mechanical freedom.
