WOODWARD EGCP-3 8406-113

Product Introduction: EGCP-3 8406-113 is a digital engine generator control package developed by Woodward for genset parallel operation and load sharing. It integrates engine sequence control, generator synchronization, load sharing, speed regulation, generator protection and operator HMI interface in one cabinet-mounted unit. This controller supports isolated bus operation and utility paralleling, and can coordinate up to 16 generator sets working in parallel network. It is widely deployed in power generation plants, combined cycle facilities and industrial backup power systems for genset control and spare replacement.

Working Principle: The controller receives generator voltage and current signals from voltage transformers and current transformers. It measures frequency, phase angle and power values continuously. The internal microprocessor executes speed regulation and synchronization algorithms. When synchronization conditions are satisfied, the controller sends command to close generator breaker. Load sharing function adjusts each genset speed bias to evenly distribute real and reactive load across parallel units. Protection logic triggers trip relays when electrical parameters exceed predefined thresholds. All alarm and event data is stored in non-volatile memory for later review.

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount the unit on indoor generator control cabinet front panel
  • Separate high voltage VT/CT wiring from low voltage I/O and serial communication cables
  • Use shielded twisted pair cables for Modbus serial communication
  • Strictly follow CT polarity rules during current transformer wiring
  • Install reliable protective earth connection for the cabinet enclosure
  • Maintain cabinet ventilation to keep ambient temperature within rated range
  • Keep away from large contactors, engine ignition coils and high noise power equipment

Usage Notes:

  • Complete genset nameplate, CT/VT ratio and protection setpoint configuration through first-time startup menu before commissioning
  • Parameter editing is prohibited while engine is running
  • Backup complete controller configuration file after commissioning
  • Perform synchronization and load sharing functional test during plant outage
  • Disconnect all power, VT and CT inputs before removing the controller
  • Check terminal screw tightness periodically due to vibration in generator room
