Performance Parameters:
- Deterministic Communication: Guarantees consistent data delivery times critical for real-time machine control.
- Real-Time Monitoring: Enhances the system’s ability to monitor and control distributed field devices accurately.
Material Composition & Structural Characteristics:
- Design: Modular, compact form factor optimized for DIN rail mounting alongside other AC500 modules.
- Build Quality: Manufactured in Sweden with high-grade industrial components ensuring long lifecycle and reliability.
- Connectors: Robust backplane connectors for secure integration into the AC500 chassis.
Working Principle:
The submodule maps the I/O data of connected PROFIBUS field devices directly into the AC500 PLC’s process image. As a master, it cyclically polls configured slave devices for data and sends control outputs. As a slave, it responds to commands from a higher-level DCS master. The dual redundant bus architecture continuously monitors link health and seamlessly switches to the backup path if a fault is detected.
Installation Requirements:
- Chassis Compatibility: Must be installed in an ABB PLC base unit; it is not compatible with other systems.
- Network Wiring: Connect the PROFIBUS cable to the designated D-sub connector, ensuring correct pinout and termination.
- Software Configuration: Use the ABB Automation Builder to configure the module’s DP Master/Slave parameters and map the I/O data.
Usage Precautions:
- Ethernet Limitation: Do not attempt to use the Ethernet port for general network routing; it is strictly for local diagnostics and configuration.
- Redundancy Setup: Properly configure the redundant bus parameters in the software to take advantage of the dual-bus feature.
- Status Monitoring: Regularly observe the programmable LEDs during operation to quickly identify and resolve communication faults.
