Description
ABB DO815
- Technical Specifications:
- Output Voltage: 24 V DC (10–32 V DC range)
- Channels: 8, in 2 isolated groups of 4
- Output Type: High-side MOSFET, current sourcing (PNP)
- Max Continuous Current: 2 A per channel @ 24 V DC; total module power dissipation limits apply
- On-State Drop: <0.25 Ω typical
- Short-Circuit / Overload Protection: Current-limited; auto-reset or latch (configurable fault mode)
- Open-Load Detection: Detects disconnected load when output is ON (below threshold current)
- OSP: Output Set-to-Predetermined state on error/comm loss (configurable)
- Isolation: Group-wise isolated from ModuleBus (500 V AC test)
- Power Dissipation: Typ. 4 W (fully loaded @ 2 A × 8 ch not simultaneously recommended — check thermal)
- ModuleBus Current: +5 V typ. 120 mA, max 150 mA
- Max Field Cable Length: 600 m
- Operating Temp.: 0 °C to +55 °C (compact MTU vertical: max +40 °C — derate for high load)
- Compatible MTUs: TU810, TU812, TU814, TU830, TU833
- Keying Code: AA
- Certifications: CE, UL/cUL, ATEX Zone 2, marine
- Functional Features:
- 2 A per channel eliminates need for interposing relay on medium-duty 24 V DC valves
- Open-load and short-circuit diagnostics with per-channel error flag
- Fault latch or auto-retry mode selectable
- OSP configurable per application safety requirement
- Undervoltage detection on process supply
- Application Scenarios:
- Direct drive of 24 V DC hydraulic / pneumatic solenoid valves (up to ~48 W coil)
- Large 24 V DC warning beacons / stack lights
- Small DC contactor coils (confirm inrush ≤ module capability — brief inrush tolerated)
- Actuator clamp/unclamp solenoids on packaging machinery
- Material & Structure / Working Principle / Installation: Same S800 form factor as DO810 — note:
- Thermal Management: At 2 A continuous per channel, ensure cabinet ventilation — DO815 dissipates significantly more heat. In compact MTU vertical mount above +40 °C, derate to 1 A/ch or use interposing relay.
- Inrush Current: Some solenoids have high inrush (holding ≈1 A, inrush 3–5 A for <100 ms) — DO815 tolerates brief inrush but verify against datasheet inrush spec (typically ≤10 A for <10 ms).
- Precautions:
- Do NOT exceed 2 A steady-state per channel — overcurrent triggers protection and may cause nuisance trips
- For highly inductive loads >2 A inrush duration >spec, use interposing relay
- Verify process supply can deliver total module load + margin (e.g., 8 × 2 A = 16 A theoretical — rarely all ON simultaneously but size supply accordingly)
- Check MTU terminal current rating — some compact TUs have 10 A max per common terminal
