- ModuleBus — for direct connection of up to 12 local S800 I/O modules on baseplate (TB807/TB820)
- Redundancy: Supports 1:1 hot-standby (two PM150V08 + sync cable + redundant PSU/CEX cards)
- Power: From AC 800M baseplate (24 V DC, typ. 15 W max)
- Indicators: Run, Error, Sync (on standby), Com Active, Battery Low, Eth Link/Act
- Operating Temp.: 0 °C to +60 °C
- Mounting: Into AC 800M CPU baseplate (BC810, BC820) — occupies leftmost slot
- Certifications: CE, UL 61010-1, cULus, ATEX / IECEx Zone 2 (with appropriate system cert), SIL2 capable in safety-related loops (with PMxxxx-HS + S800 SIL I/O)
- Firmware: Compatible with Control Builder M (version must match — e.g., CB M 5.1.x for FW 5.1.x)
- Functional Features:
- IEC 61131-3 programming (FBD, LD, ST, IL, SFC)
- Online trend, watch window, force (password protected)
- Integrated OPC server via 800xA Connectivity; direct MMS/GOOSE for IEC 61850 (option)
- Retentive variables, recipe handling, sequence control (SFC)
- Time sync via NTP/SNTP or IRIG-B (with option card / system clock source)
- Extensive diagnostics uploaded to 800xA — module health, I/O error rates, comm statistics
- Application Scenarios:
- Process unit control in System 800xA DCS (boiler, reactor, separation column)
- Retrofit of Advant Controller 450 nodes — AC 800M + PM150V08 runs converted function blocks
- Hybrid process — batch + continuous (S88/S95 concepts supported via 800xA Batch)
- Water/wastewater treatment plant master controller with Profibus DP to remote I/O
- Material & Structure:
- Housing: Aluminum/steel shielded module with plastic front bezel
- Connectors: RJ45 (Eth 1 & 2), D-sub 9-pin (RS-232/485), CEX-bus edge connector, ModuleBus gold-finger
- Battery: Coin cell (CR2032 or similar) on baseplate or on CPU — backs up retentive memory when 24 V absent
- Working Principle:
On power-up the boot loader initializes hardware, loads firmware & application from Flash into RAM, performs I/O self-test, synchronizes time, then enters cyclic execution: read inputs from I/O image → execute control logic (task(s)) → write outputs → handle communication & diagnostics → update watchdog. In redundant config, standby mirrors primary’s image via high-speed sync link and takes over on watchdog failure within one scan.
- Installation Requirements:
- Insert PM150V08 into BC810/BC820 baseplate (leftmost slot); ensure key matches (PM series key different from CI/AI/DI etc.)
- Insert CEX option cards (CI854 etc.) if used; connect Ethernet cables to plant LAN / engineering laptop
- Connect 24 V DC to baseplate PSU; verify polarity & voltage
- In Control Builder M: create new project / open existing; set CPU type = PM150V08; download firmware if mismatch; download application
- After download: verify Run LED green; check I/O communication (ModuleBus or CEX-bus LEDs)
- Precautions:
- Firmware version must be compatible with Control Builder M version — always check ABB compatibility matrix before upgrading
- Before removing from live redundant pair: ensure standby is healthy & primary — removing active CPU forces switchover
- Battery: replace per maintenance schedule (every 3–5 years) — loss with power off clears retentive vars & RTC drifts; keep backup of application on PC / 800xA server
- For online changes: qualify change as “online-modifiable” in Control Builder; major structural changes require cold restart — plan with operations
- Handle with ESD precautions; do NOT touch gold edge-f
