ABB PM891K01

Product Brief: The PM891 is a high-end AC 800M CPU positioned alongside PM866 but with enhanced self-diagnostics, memory parity checking, and certification for use in SIL2 (optionally SIL3 with external SIS separate FPL/FB) architectures when combined with S800 SIL I/O (DI880/DO880 etc.) and proper SRS engineering. It has 128 MB application RAM / 256 MB Flash (similar to PM866 but with added hardware diagnostic features). It is fully redundant-ready and is the recommended CPU for large System 800xA nodes that also incorporate SIL-rated I/O in the same controller (mixed SIF + BPCS — segregation per IEC 61511 still required).

Description

ABB PM891K01

  • Technical Specifications (similar to PM866 + extras):
    • Application RAM: 128 MB (ECC-protected)
    • Flash: 256 MB
    • CPU: Dual-core RISC with enhanced watchdog & memory parity
    • Interfaces: Same as PM865/866 — 2×Eth 10/100/1000? (some PM891 revisions have GbE; confirm label — later ones yes, early PM891 may be 10/100 — verify)
    • Redundancy: Yes — PM891+PM891 pair only (no mix)
    • Safety Context: When used with S800 SIL I/O + proper SRS → SIL2 achievable for SIF loops in same controller; true SIL3 SIS typically separate FPL (Failsafe Programmable Logic) or separate S800 SIS node — consult ABB SIS guideline
    • Certifications: Same as PM866 + IEC 61508/ IEC 61511certification documentation available for SIL context
    • Firmware: Control Builder M 5.1+ / 6.x (match version)
  • Functional Features / Application / Material / Structure / Working Principle / Installation / Precautions:
    • Same application programming model as PM865/866 — direct code port
    • Enhanced diagnostics readable via 800xA — memory parity error, watchdog self-test failure → Fault LED + controller safe state per config
    • For SIL-rated loops: ensure SRS specifies SIL target, use S800 SIL I/O (DI880/DO880), configure OSP & loop supervision, perform proof-test per SRS
    • Precaution: PM891 redundant pair must be identical firmware & memory option. Do NOT mix PM891 with PM866/PM865 in same rack. Firmware/CB M version compatibility critical — SIL documentation may require specific FW version — record FW version in SIS documentation.
