ABB SPCJ4D34-AA

Product Brief: The SPCJ4D34 is the intelligent interface / bus master for an Advant S100 I/O rack cluster. A group of S100 I/O modules (SPCIS22, SPDIO13, SPAI etc.) are mounted on S100 termination units daisy-chained — the SPCJ4D34 plugs into a dedicated slot on the first termination unit (or onto a small carrier) and:

  • Generates S100 bus cycles, reads/writes I/O module images
  • Stores I/O configuration & module health status
  • Connects via fiber optic or serial link to the Advant Controller 450 (BRC-100/300 in IEMMU21 rack) — often via a short fiber to an INNIS21 or to a CI520A if used as remote S100 cluster for AC 800M
  • Contains a parameter memory (battery-backed) for I/O mapping
  • In modern migration: S100 I/O retained, controller changed to AC 800M + CI520A/CI522A — SPCJ4D34 may be removed; if keeping Advant 450, SPCJ4D34 remains as I/O cluster head

Description

ABB SPCJ4D34-AA

  • Technical Specifications (typical SPCJ4D34):
    • Function: S100 bus master + cluster interface to controller node
    • Link to Controller: Fiber optic ST (820 nm) to INNIS21 / INICT13 (Advant 450) or to CI520A gateway (AC 800M migration)
    • S100 Bus: Drives up to N modules (typically 32–64 per cluster; multiple clusters possible)
    • Memory: Battery-backed SRAM for I/O image & config; Flash for FW
    • Power: From S100 bus PSU module (SPU01) — 5 V / 24 V DC derived
    • Indicators: Run, Err, Link Active (to controller), S100 Active LEDs
    • Mounting: On S100 termination unit first position OR on small DIN carrier (dep. on version — some SPCJ4 are DIN-mount head-station)
    • Operating Temp.: 0 °C to +55 °C
    • Firmware: Loaded via Advant Engineering Workbench; must match controller SW version
  • Functional Features / Application / Material / Structure / Working Principle / Installation / Precautions:
    • In Advant 450 system: install SPCJ4D34 in S100 I/O rack first position → connect fiber to INNIS21 (or INICT13) C.W. port → define cluster in controller config → assign I/O modules (SPCIS22 etc.) → download
    • In AC 800M migration: replace SPCJ4D34 + INNIS21 link with CI520A ( Bus Interface for AC 800M) connected to bus where SPCJ4D34 was — AC 800M sees I/O as remote I/O via CI520A
    • Precaution: If replacing faulty SPCJ4D34 — backup I/O config exists in controller project; after swap, power up → auto-loads config from controller on first C.W. cycle (green Run LED). Verify bus termination — last module must have 95 Ω terminator plug. Battery on (if separate) should be checked/replaced per PM schedule.
    • Handle ESD; do NOT remove/insert with bus powered unless hot-swap confirmed supported (usually yes for cluster — but controller may momentarily mark I/O doubtful — coordinate with ops).
