Material Composition
Stainless steel probe body with precision-wound internal coil, TipLoc patented molding technology for secure tip-to-body connection, and CableLoc patented design rated for 330 N (75 lbs) tensile strength.
Structural Characteristics
Cylindrical 8mm diameter probe with 3/8-24 UNF mounting thread. The probe features an integrated short cable (0.5 meters) terminated with a miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector for connection to the extension cable. The non-armored construction provides flexibility for installation in confined spaces.
Working Principle
The probe contains a precision coil that generates a high-frequency alternating magnetic field when energized by the Proximitor. When a conductive target surface (shaft) enters this field, eddy currents are induced in the target, creating an opposing magnetic field that alters the probe coil’s impedance. This impedance change is proportional to the gap distance between the probe tip and the target surface.
Installation Requirements
Mount the probe using the 3/8-24 UNF thread in a tapped hole on the machine bearing housing. Ensure the probe tip is perpendicular to the target surface. The total system electrical length (probe cable + extension cable) must match the Proximitor rating. Use ClickLoc connectors for secure, tool-free connection.
Usage Notes
Verify the target surface is clean, smooth, and free of oil, debris, or metallic particles before installation. The recommended initial gap setting is 1.27 mm (50 mils). For installations in wet environments, use connector protectors to prevent moisture ingress. The probe is backward compatible with non-XL 3300 series 8mm Proximitors.
