- Probe Case Material: AISI 303 or 304 Stainless Steel for superior corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
- Cable Jacket: Standard FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) or optional FluidLoc material to prevent oil wicking along the internal cable core.
Structural Characteristics
- TipLoc Technology: Utilizes a proprietary molding process that guarantees a permanent, robust connection between the probe tip and the main body, preventing separation under severe vibration.
- Integrated Cable: Features a permanently attached 1.0-meter integral cable, reducing the number of connection points and minimizing potential signal degradation.
- Compact Form Factor: Designed with a short overall case length to fit into tight mechanical clearances on complex rotating equipment.
Working Principle
The probe operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction. An internal high-frequency oscillator drives an alternating current through the probe’s coil, generating a magnetic field. When a conductive target (the machine shaft) enters this field, eddy currents are induced on the target’s surface. The energy lost to these eddy currents changes the impedance of the probe coil. The connected Proximitor signal conditioner detects this impedance change and converts it into a precise DC voltage proportional to the physical gap between the probe tip and the shaft.
Installation Requirements
- Initial Gap Setting: The recommended initial installation gap is 1.27 mm (50 mils) to ensure the operating point remains centered within the linear measurement range.
- Mechanical Mounting: Secure the probe using the M10 x 1.0 thread and a locknut. Apply proper torque to prevent loosening due to machinery vibration.
- Cable Routing: Route the 1.0-meter cable away from high-voltage power lines and sources of electromagnetic interference. Maintain the minimum bend radius to prevent internal conductor damage.
