Working Principle The barrier limits energy transferred to hazardous area to safe level defined by intrinsic safety standard. Safe side DC power is isolated and supplied to two-wire transmitter in explosive zone. Transmitter 4-20mA analog signal transfers back through isolation circuit to safe side DCS input card. Galvanic isolation prevents high voltage surge from safe side entering hazardous area.
Installation Requirements
- Mount on DIN rail inside safe zone control cabinet
- Separate hazardous wiring and safe wiring in different cable trays
- Use intrinsically safe certified cable for field loop
- Ambient temperature kept -40 °C to +60 °C
- Verify earth connection of barrier bus bar
- Configure loop parameters after wiring completion
- Observe ATEX installation rules for hazardous instrument loops
Precautions
- Do not install this barrier inside hazardous zone
- Match the maximum capacitance and inductance parameters for field cable
- Do not modify internal circuit components
- Check wire break diagnosis function during maintenance
- Store spare barriers in dry environment
- Do not exceed rated isolation voltage
