Material Composition
- Ceramic or high-strength fuse body.
- Silver or copper fuse element.
- Quartz sand arc-extinguishing filler.
- Metal end caps and blade terminals.
- Insulating housing or base materials.
- Optional striker pin or microswitch indicator.
- Nameplate and rating markings.
Structural Features
- Rectangular or block-type fuse body consistent with RSG-5 size code.
- Blade-type terminals for bolted connection.
- Sealed fuse body filled with arc-quenching material.
- Clear voltage and current rating markings.
- Optional mechanical or electrical fault indication.
- Designed for secure mounting on fuse bases or busbar assemblies.
Working Principle
When the circuit current exceeds the fuse element rating, the fuse element heats rapidly and melts. The arc formed inside the fuse body is extinguished by the quartz sand filler, which absorbs arc energy and limits fault current. The fast-acting characteristic allows the fuse to interrupt short-circuit currents before semiconductor devices are damaged. If a striker or indicator is fitted, it provides a visible or electrical signal after the fuse has operated.
Installation Requirements
- Select the correct rated voltage and current for the protected circuit.
- Install the fuse on a compatible Eaton Bussmann fuse base or busbar assembly.
- Ensure tight and clean electrical connections to avoid overheating.
- Maintain adequate clearance and creepage distances.
- Provide adequate ventilation around the fuse.
- Do not install damaged or visibly overheated fuses.
- Verify system de-energization before installation or replacement.
- Confirm that the replacement fuse matches the original rating and type.
Precautions for Use
- Do not replace a fast-acting semiconductor fuse with a general-purpose fuse.
- Do not exceed the rated voltage or current specified on the nameplate.
- Investigate the cause of fuse operation before replacement.
- Replace fuses only with identical ratings and approved types.
- Handle fuses carefully to avoid mechanical damage.
- Keep the fuse body clean and free from contamination.
- Follow Eaton Bussmann installation guides and local electrical safety regulations.
- For exact electrical and mechanical data, refer to the official Eaton Bussmann RSG series documentation.
