Emerson XCM25D

Product Brief Introduction: XCM25D is Ovation DCS discrete relay output module designed for heavy-duty field control loads. It receives digital control commands from Ovation controller through rack backplane bus and drives external field equipment via isolated relay contacts. This module provides high capacity relay contacts for actuators, large solenoid valves and auxiliary control circuits. It is installed in Ovation I/O rack for critical discrete control applications and includes channel fault diagnosis and contact state feedback.

Structural Characteristics Standard Ovation I/O card form factor. Gold plated edge connector on rear side plugs into rack backplane. Front panel integrates extraction handle and LED status indicators. PCB layout separates DCS digital control circuit and field heavy load relay circuit. Each channel uses independent sealed relay and isolation circuit. Relay components are sealed to resist dust, humidity and vibration inside control cabinet.

Working Principle Ovation controller sends digital control command to XCM25D via rack backplane bus. Internal logic chip receives command and drives optocoupler to activate corresponding relay coil. Relay contact closes or opens to switch external field load circuit. The module captures contact feedback signal and transmits actual state back to Ovation controller for command verification. Continuous circuit monitoring detects abnormal load condition and triggers fault alarm signal.

Installation Requirements

  1. Align XCM25D card with rack guide slot, insert steadily until backplane connector fully engages. Lock front panel handle to secure module.
  2. Run heavy gauge shielded cable for field load wiring. Separate high current load cable from low-level analog signal cable.
  3. Configure channel output logic and fault action in Ovation engineering workstation.
  4. Perform loop test and point verification after wiring completion before commissioning.
  5. Ensure cabinet protective grounding connection is reliable, grounding resistance less than 4 ohms.
  6. Keep cabinet ventilation path unobstructed to dissipate heat generated by relay operation.

Usage Precautions

  1. Do not connect load current exceeding relay rated capacity to output terminals. Overload causes permanent contact welding and damage.
  2. Install freewheeling protection components for inductive loads such as large solenoid coils.
  3. Hot swap operation must strictly follow official Ovation maintenance operating procedure.
  4. Do not touch gold plated backplane connector pins by hand. Finger grease causes poor contact and signal error.
  5. No field repairable components. Replace the whole module when internal circuit fails.
  6. Prevent metal debris falling into rack slot during installation.
