GE IC200ALG630

Product Introduction: The IC200ALG630 is an 8-channel analog input module specifically designed for temperature measurement applications. It supports multiple thermocouple types (J, K, T, E, N, R, S, B) and 2/3/4-wire RTD sensors (Pt100, Pt1000, Cu50, Cu100). It provides cold-junction compensation for thermocouples and is ideal for process industries requiring accurate temperature monitoring across multiple points.

Working Principle: Each channel contains a dedicated signal conditioning circuit. For thermocouple inputs, the tiny millivolt signal is amplified by a low-drift instrumentation amplifier, cold-junction compensated using an on-board precision temperature sensor, and then digitized by a 16-bit sigma-delta ADC. For RTD inputs, a constant current source excites the sensor, and the voltage drop across the RTD is measured to calculate resistance and thus temperature. Channel isolation is maintained via opto-couplers and isolated power supplies per channel group. Installation Requirements:

  • Install in IC200 chassis with adequate slot spacing for heat dissipation
  • Use dedicated shielded cable for each thermocouple or RTD sensor
  • For thermocouples: use extension-grade or thermocouple-grade wire; never use copper wire
  • For RTDs: use 3-wire configuration for best accuracy over long distances
  • Ground shields at the PLC end only
  • Keep sensor wires away from VFD output cables and motor leads

Usage Notes:

  • Always configure the correct thermocouple type in software — wrong type = completely wrong temperature reading
  • For RTDs, use the matching wire configuration (2-wire for short runs, 3-wire for runs over 10m)
  • Enable the built-in 50/60Hz filter if operating near large motors or welders
  • Perform a zero-point check (ice bath for thermocouples, known resistance for RTDs) during commissioning
  • Replace fuse on each channel group if a channel shows persistent fault
