Honeywell 51400993-400

Product Introduction This NIM network interface module is the core bridge device between Honeywell TDC3000 LCN local control network and UCN universal control network. Revision 400 is the enhanced high-performance NIM version. It realizes bidirectional protocol conversion and data forwarding between LCN and UCN networks. It transmits operator commands, setpoint changes and alarm data from LCN HMI nodes to UCN HPM controllers, and uploads process values, loop status and fault information from UCN side to LCN network. It supports redundant network configuration and ensures seamless data exchange for the whole TPS system.

Honeywell 51400993-400

Technical Specifications LCN Interface: 5Mbps coaxial bus, BNC connectors UCN Interface: 5Mbps differential serial bus Backplane Interface: NIM internal parallel backplane bus Power Supply: 5V DC Power Consumption: 9.5W Operating Temperature Range: 0℃ to 65℃ Storage Temperature Range: -40℃ to 85℃ Isolation Withstand Voltage: 1500V AC Relative Humidity: 5% to 95%, non-condensing

Functional Features It completes LCN and UCN protocol parsing, frame packaging and CRC verification. It supports dual redundant LCN links and dual redundant UCN links with bumpless automatic switchover. It carries out data filtering and point mapping to prevent invalid data flooding on both networks. It supports hot swap operation. It records network communication error logs, message forwarding statistics and node online/offline events. It supports time synchronization forwarding between LCN master clock and UCN controllers. It enhances signal equalization circuit to adapt long-distance UCN cable layout.

Application Scenarios LCN-UCN network bridge for main TPS control systems in petrochemical and refining plants. Redundant NIM configuration for high-reliability ESD and continuous process control systems. Replacement and upgrade of old revision NIM modules in legacy TPS cabinets. Data interconnection between GUS operator stations and HPM controllers on separate UCN segments.

Performance Parameters Message Forwarding Latency: ≤80μs Maximum Supported UCN Nodes: 32 HPM / IOP nodes Clock Synchronization Precision: ±0.8ms Single Node Throughput: 1400 messages per second

Material Composition PCB Substrate: Low-loss high-frequency FR-4 multi-layer board with RF and differential impedance control layout Dual-protocol FPGA processing chip LCN RF transceiver chip UCN differential signal drive chip Gold-plated BNC coaxial connectors Gold-plated back edge fingers Aluminum alloy front panel with anodized anti-oxidation treatment

Structural Features Standard European pluggable card structure, installed in dedicated NIM slot of LCN node rack. Front panel is equipped with run indicator light, fault indicator light, LCN A/B link indicator lights and UCN A/B link indicator lights. Two groups of BNC connectors for LCN bus and differential terminal block for UCN bus are arranged on the side panel. RF signal area is covered by independent metal shielding cover to isolate digital logic noise. High-speed logic chips are equipped with dedicated heat dissipation channels.

Working Principle The module receives message frames from LCN coaxial bus, parses LCN protocol and extracts target point data and commands. It repackages valid data into UCN protocol frames and sends frames to the active UCN link. It receives process data and fault frames from UCN bus, converts frames into standard LCN message format and transmits frames to LCN network. It continuously monitors signal quality of redundant LCN and UCN links. When active link signal quality drops below threshold, the module switches communication path to standby link immediately. It synchronizes clock between two networks and uploads communication diagnostic data to LCN diagnostic console.

Installation Requirements Insert the module vertically into the dedicated NIM slot of LCN node rack and tighten fixing screws. Use 50Ω dedicated RF coaxial cables for LCN A/B wiring and shielded differential cables for UCN A/B wiring. Install 50Ω terminal resistors at the physical ends of LCN trunk bus. Redundant LCN and UCN cables shall be laid in separate cable trays. After power on, check link status and error count on the LCN network diagnostic page.

Precautions Release static electricity before plugging the module to protect RF transceiver and FPGA chips. Firmware version must match the whole TPS system, version mismatch causes network communication interruption. BNC connector oxidation and cable extrusion lead to signal attenuation and intermittent communication dropout. Do not bend coaxial cable with radius smaller than specification limit. Dust and moisture accumulation on BNC ports degrade signal transmission quality.
