Functional Features Each serial channel independently configures baud rate, parity bit, stop bit and master/slave mode. Frame checksum validation rejects corrupted Modbus response message. Serial bus timeout, parity error and framing error detection for each port. Front panel TX/RX LED indicates transmit and receive activity for every channel. Message buffer prevents data loss during burst transmission from remote devices. Communication fault timestamp uploads to PLC event log. Differential receiver rejects common mode ground loop noise on EIA-485 bus.

Application Scenarios Gas analyzer and liquid composition analyzer data collection Variable frequency drive parameter read and set via Modbus RTU Remote pumping station RTU data integration Third-party temperature recorder serial interface IPC620 PLC multi-channel Modbus gateway spare replacement

  • Isolation withstand voltage: 1500 VAC for 60 seconds
  • Serial bus maximum cable length: 1200 m at 9600 bps
  • Modbus message forwarding latency: Deterministic within IPC scan cycle

Material Composition FR4 multilayer PCB, serial transceiver IC, protocol processing FPGA, optocoupler isolation chips, TVS surge suppression diodes, ferrite noise beads, screw terminal block, gold plated backplane edge connector, UL94 V0 plastic front panel.

Structural Features Standard eurocard plug-in form factor compatible with IPC620 rack slot. Front panel LED indicators grouped by each serial port TX and RX signal. Screw terminals for EIA-485 A/B differential lines locate on front panel. Internal isolation barrier separates rack logic circuit and each serial channel. Anti-keying notch prevents reversed insertion. Each serial channel has independent isolation circuit from other channels.

Working Principle IPC620 CPU sends Modbus read or write request over I/O Link backplane bus. Onboard FPGA repackages command into Modbus RTU frame and transmits through selected EIA-485 channel. Response frame received from remote device passes CRC check validation. Valid data converts into IPC internal register format and transmits back to CPU. Continuous bus monitoring detects timeout and framing error and marks channel fault status.

Installation Requirements EIA-485 bus uses twisted differential cable, install 120 ohm termination resistor at bus far end. Do not connect termination resistor at both ends of short bus segment. Match baud rate, parity and slave address between module and remote device. Separate serial communication cable from high voltage power wiring. Tighten A/B terminal screws to specified torque value.

Usage Notes A and B differential line reversal causes complete communication failure. Duplicate slave address on same Modbus bus triggers message collision. Long distance field bus needs additional external lightning surge protection. Do not modify onboard Modbus protocol firmware.
