Honeywell 620-2535

Product Introduction This terminator board is installed in the far end slot of the IPC620 backplane, providing characteristic impedance matching for the proprietary I/O Link parallel backplane bus. It eliminates high-speed signal reflection at the bus end, prevents signal waveform distortion and data misalignment between CPU, communication cards and I/O modules across the rack. It is a passive plug-in module with no external power requirement.

Functional Features Precision resistor network matches bus characteristic impedance, eliminates high-speed signal end reflection. On-board ESD discharge diverts static charge generated during module insertion. Signal buffer circuit restores signal edge distortion from long-distance backplane transmission. Passive design, no firmware or driver required, operates immediately after installation. Isolates unused slot bus signals, prevents floating signals from causing communication bit errors.

Application Scenarios Repair of IPC620 backplane bus signal reflection and communication bit error faults Bus impedance matching after adding new modules to a rack Spare part replacement for unstable bus communication in legacy IPC620 cabinets Signal calibration after cabinet relocation or plant move

Material Composition FR4 multilayer PCB substrate Precision metal film termination resistor network ESD discharge tubes, ferrite beads Gold-plated backplane edge finger connector Powder-coated cold rolled steel mounting bracket

Structural Features Standard Eurocard form factor, identical dimensions to other IPC620 plug-in modules. No front-facing wiring terminals, only rear gold finger connector mates to the backplane. Silk-screen “TERMINATOR” label printed on the board to distinguish it from functional I/O cards. Anti-keying notch prevents insertion into non-end slots. Impedance-controlled trace layout matching 120 Ω bus characteristic.

Working Principle High-speed parallel bus signals traveling to the rack end encounter impedance mismatch, causing reflected waves that overlay the original signal, leading to distorted logic levels and sampling errors. This terminator board’s precision resistor network absorbs signal energy arriving at the bus end, eliminating reflection oscillation. ESD discharge components continuously divert static charge accumulated during module insertion, protecting bus input pins on all cards.

Installation Requirements Fully de-energize the rack before installing the terminator board. Install only in the physical far-end slot of the backplane bus, never insert into middle slots. Align the board with the slot guide, press firmly until gold fingers are fully seated. Verify bus communication quality via the upper-level diagnostic interface after power-on.

Usage Notes Every independent bus segment in a multi-section rack requires its own terminator at the far end. This board has no fault LED indicator; backplane communication bit errors should be traced to terminator seating position first. Do not replace on-board resistor values, mismatched impedance will cause communication failure. Clean gold finger contacts regularly, oxidation causes intermittent poor connection.
