Honeywell 621-9937

Product Introduction This discrete output module receives on-off commands from the 621 PLC CPU, switching 24 V DC field loads including solenoid valves, status beacons and indicator lights. It uses solid state semiconductor switching instead of mechanical relays, delivering fast switching speed and long service life for low-power DC loads. The module includes per-channel overcurrent protection and fault diagnosis, serving as the standard discrete output component for 621 control racks.

Material Composition Multilayer FR4 PCB substrate Power NPN transistor array Optocoupler isolation devices Current sense resistors TVS surge suppression diodes Ceramic decoupling capacitors Gold-plated backplane edge finger connector UL94 V0 flame retardant plastic front panel

Structural Features Standard Eurocard plug-in dimensions compatible with the 621 rack. Front panel carries one LED indicator per output channel. Internal isolation barrier separates backplane logic circuit and 24 V DC output load circuit. Anti-keying notch prevents reversed insertion into analog input slots. Power transistor layout reserves copper heat spreading area for thermal dissipation.

Working Principle The CPU transmits output state commands over the backplane bus. The onboard logic circuit receives the command and drives the optocoupler to activate the corresponding NPN sinking transistor. The transistor pulls the field load circuit to ground to energize the load. The current sense resistor continuously monitors output channel current; when current exceeds the rated threshold, hardware current limiting activates and the fault latch flag is set, then sent to the CPU. Readback circuit compares actual circuit state against the command value, triggering a mismatch alarm on deviation.

Installation Requirements Total combined load current must not exceed the module overall power rating. Use fuse protection at the field load distribution terminal for each output group. Separate solid state output wiring from analog instrument signal cables. Test channel on/off action and short-circuit protection response during commissioning.

Usage Notes This module cannot directly drive high-current loads exceeding 0.5 A per channel. Inductive 24 V DC loads require flyback diode installation across load terminals. Solid state outputs have small off-state leakage current that may faintly illuminate high-sensitivity LED loads; this is a normal operating characteristic. Never apply voltage higher than 30 V DC to output terminals.
