Material Composition Cast aluminum powder-coated housing Long-life high-gain UV photosensitive tube Thick quartz sight glass window Stainless steel shutter High-temperature fiberglass cable gland Gold-plated output contacts
Structural Features Heavy-duty cylindrical cast aluminum housing. Thick quartz glass window rated for furnace wall pressure penetration. Rear sealed terminal compartment. 1 1/2 inch NPT mounting thread for furnace wall flanges. Integral shutter mechanism protects the window during off cycles.
Working Principle Flame ultraviolet radiation travels through the long sight tube to reach the detector window. The high-gain UV photosensitive tube amplifies attenuated UV signals above the detection threshold, triggering the internal relay to output a “flame present” contact signal. On flameout, UV signal drops below threshold, the relay opens to trigger safety shutdown. The on-board signal strength meter displays received UV level for commissioning verification.
Installation Requirements Mount the detector on the furnace wall sight tube flange, align the optical path directly at the flame. Blow out the sight tube to remove dust and debris before detector installation. Connect supply and output wires to the terminal block. Use the on-board signal strength meter to confirm sufficient UV signal level.
Usage Notes Dust buildup on sight tube walls attenuates UV signal, blow out the sight tube every 3 months. Blockage in the sight tube from soot causes signal loss; inspect sight tube alignment annually. Never install the detector on a sight tube viewing through dirty refractory brick, this blocks nearly all UV. Sight tube internal condensation causes signal scattering; install sight tube heaters in cold environments.
