Working Principle: The module communicates with CompactLogix L1 controller via 1734 Point I/O backplane. When set as Modbus master, the module sends polling commands to RS-485 Modbus slave instruments, reads register data and transfers data to PLC controller tags. When set as Modbus slave, the module receives commands from external Modbus master and responds with data stored in PLC memory. The serial transceiver converts parallel backplane data into RS-485 differential serial signals. The module continuously monitors serial communication status and reports communication faults to PLC controller, with corresponding LED indicator activation upon fault occurrence. All configuration parameters save to onboard non-volatile memory.

Installation Requirements:

  • Insert ILX34-MBS485 module into vacant slot of 1734 Point I/O rack
  • Wear anti-static wristband during module handling and replacement
  • Use shielded twisted pair cable for RS-485 field bus wiring
  • Install 120 ohm terminal resistor at the two physical endpoints of RS-485 bus
  • Separate RS-485 signal cable from high voltage power cables
  • Complete backplane locking after module insertion
  • Keep ambient temperature within -20 °C to +55 °C
  • Maintain cabinet dry and dust-free environment
