Working Principle: The card draws power and host communication from PC/104 ISA bus. The onboard PROFIBUS ASIC handles the physical layer and data link layer of PROFIBUS DP. It executes cyclic polling of all configured DP slaves, reads input data from field slaves and writes output commands from host controller. Isolation circuits separate the embedded PC side from field bus to block ground loop interference. Fault detection circuits monitor bus signal quality and report communication errors back to host software.
Installation Requirements:
- Stack the card onto PC/104 CPU board via stack-through connectors inside sealed industrial cabinet
- Maintain proper stacking alignment to avoid pin bending or short circuit
- Use shielded PROFIBUS cable with proper bus termination resistor at bus endpoints
- Separate PROFIBUS field wiring from high voltage power cables
- Ensure reliable cabinet protective grounding for bus shielding
- Keep cabinet ventilation to maintain operating temperature range
Usage Notes:
- Load matching GSD files for all PROFIBUS DP slaves during software configuration
- Verify bus termination resistor setting on PROFIBUS network
- Avoid hot swapping the PC/104 stack while powered on
- Prevent conductive dust and metal debris on PCB surface
- Disconnect all power before adding or removing PC/104 modules
- Backup communication configuration before firmware update
