Working Principle
The SPW481-53 receives 100-120 V AC power from the plant supply and converts it into regulated DC voltages required by the control system rack. The converted power is distributed through the backplane to processors, communication modules, I/O modules and other installed cards. Internal protection circuits monitor voltage, current and temperature conditions. In redundant configurations, a second power module can share or back up the load so that a single power failure does not interrupt system operation.
Installation Requirements
- Install only in a compatible Yokogawa control station or rack.
- Verify that the AC input voltage matches the 100-120 V AC rating.
- Power down the rack before inserting or removing the module.
- Ensure proper grounding of the control cabinet and AC supply.
- Maintain adequate ventilation around the power module.
- Confirm that the -53 environmental rating matches the installation site.
- Use approved Yokogawa racks, backplanes and accessories.
- Follow plant electrical safety procedures during installation.
Precautions for Use
- Do not exceed the rated input voltage or environmental limits.
- Do not mix incompatible power module revisions in the same rack.
- Verify redundancy settings before relying on a single module.
- Keep the module clean and free from conductive contamination.
- Replace failed modules with the correct Yokogawa part number.
- Record serial numbers and configuration data during maintenance.
- Avoid installation in areas with excessive vibration or moisture beyond the rated range.
- Refer to the official Yokogawa SPW481 and ProSafe-RS documentation for exact wiring, configuration and troubleshooting procedures.
