- Working Principle:
At power-up the boot loader initializes hardware, loads the operating system and control application from Flash into RAM. The executive enters a cyclic scan: read inputs from I/O image table → execute control logic → write outputs → handle communication tasks → update diagnostics. In redundant configuration, the standby CPU mirrors the active’s image table via a high-speed sync link and takes over within one scan on failure detection.
- Installation Requirements:
- Insert into designated CPU slot of Advant/800xA rack ensuring backplane engagement
- Connect 24 V DC supply to rack PSU — verify polarity and voltage before power-on
- For redundancy: connect sync cable between two CPM810 modules per ABB wiring diagram
- Download application via Control Builder / 800xA Engineering
- Precautions:
- Always discharge static before handling — use wrist strap
- Do NOT remove module while rack is powered unless hot-swap is explicitly supported in your configuration
- Battery (if equipped) must be replaced per maintenance schedule — loss of battery with power off clears retentive variables and RTC drifts
- Firmware version must be compatible with Engineering Workbench version — mismatch prevents download
