Bently 3500 53

Technical Specifications

  • Model Number: 3500/53
  • Module Type: Overspeed Detector
  • Input Signal: Keyphasor or dedicated speed sensor pulses

Key Features

  • Ultra-Fast Response: Hardware-level processing ensures millisecond-level response times for critical overspeed trips.
  • Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) Support: Can be configured in a TMR setup for maximum safety integrity and fault tolerance.
  • Peak Speed Latching: Automatically captures and latches the maximum speed reached during an overspeed event for post-trip analysis.
  • Continuous Self-Testing: Continuously monitors its own internal circuitry to ensure safety readiness.

Application Scenarios
Mandatory for all large steam turbines, gas turbines, and high-speed compressors where exceeding the maximum safe rotational speed poses an immediate explosion or disintegration hazard.

Performance Parameters

  • Relay Response Time: Less than 30 milliseconds
  • Speed Range: Configurable up to 120,000 RPM

Material Composition
High-reliability safety-rated electronic components housed in a specialized, shielded enclosure designed to meet stringent industrial safety standards.

Structural Characteristics
Full-height module featuring front-panel LEDs for power, normal operation, overspeed trip, and module fault indications.

Working Principle
Receives pulse signals from a shaft gear tooth or keyway. The internal microprocessor calculates the time between pulses to determine RPM. If the calculated speed exceeds the programmed Danger setpoint, the module instantly energizes the trip relay.

Installation Requirements
Must be installed in accordance with API 670 safety standards. Requires a dedicated, clean power supply and proper grounding to prevent nuisance trips.

Usage Precautions
Never bypass overspeed protection during normal operations. Regularly perform functional tests using the module’s built-in test capabilities to verify safety circuit integrity.
