Working Principle: The housing assembly provides a mechanically rigid and environmentally sealed mounting point for the eddy current proximity probe. The probe is installed in reverse-mount configuration within the housing, with the probe tip facing the rotating shaft through the housing opening. The dome cap secures the probe in position while the O-ring seals prevent moisture and contaminants from entering. The extension cable exits through the conduit port, providing a protected path to the proximitor. Gap adjustment is performed by rotating the probe within the housing threads while monitoring the proximitor output voltage.
Installation Requirements:
- Housing must be mounted on a rigid surface with adequate structural support
- Probe tip must face the target shaft surface with proper clearance
- Conduit connection must be properly sealed to maintain environmental protection
- O-rings must be inspected and replaced if damaged during installation
- Thread sealant must be applied to housing threads per manufacturer specifications
Usage Notes:
- Verify housing material compatibility with the installation environment (aluminum for general use, stainless steel for corrosive environments)
- Ensure O-ring seals are properly seated before tightening the dome cap
- Do not over-tighten the dome cap to avoid damaging the O-ring or probe
- Use safety wire through predrilled holes on the locknut to prevent loosening due to vibration
- Confirm intrinsically safe certification requirements are met for hazardous area installations
- Periodically inspect housing seals and conduit connections for integrity
