Description
Foxboro FBM216B
Technical Specifications
- Channels: 8 independent, channel-isolated inputs.
- Signal Type: 4-20 mA with HART superimposed digital communication.
- HART Version: Compatible with HART 5, 6, and 7.
- Communication: 2 Mbps redundant module fieldbus.
Functional Features
- Dual-Mode Acquisition: Reads both analog process variables and digital device diagnostics simultaneously.
- Channel Isolation: Galvanic isolation prevents ground loops and protects against field surges.
- HART Passthrough: Allows operator workstations to communicate directly with field devices for configuration and calibration.
- Hot-Swappable: Online replacement without field wiring disconnection.
Application Scenarios
Widely used in modern process plants leveraging smart instrumentation for predictive maintenance, device management, and enhanced process visibility.
Performance Parameters
- Analog Accuracy: ±0.05% of span.
- HART Communication: 1200 baud, Bell 202 standard.
- Loop Power: 24 VDC loop power available for field transmitters.
Material Composition
Rugged aluminum enclosure with conformal-coated internals for harsh environment protection.
Structural Characteristics
- Dimensions: Standard 200 Series FBM size.
- Termination: Dedicated HART-compatible Termination Assembly (TA).
- Indicators: Channel status and HART activity LEDs.
Working Principle
The module conditions the 4-20 mA signal for A/D conversion while simultaneously demodulating the HART digital signal. Both data streams are packaged and transmitted over the fieldbus to the controller and device management system.
Installation Requirements
- Use the correct HART-compatible Termination Assembly.
- Ensure loop resistance meets HART specifications (minimum 250 Ω).
- Shielded cable required for HART signal integrity.
Precautions for Use
- Verify HART device compatibility before configuration.
- Do not exceed loop power limits.
- Follow ESD safety protocols during handling.
