Description

Foxboro FBM42

Technical Specifications

  • Channel Configuration: 8 inputs (contact/DC) and 8 high-power DC outputs.
  • Application Voltage: Up to 60 VDC.
  • Output Capability: Maximum 2.25 A DC per channel in steady state with unlimited short-circuit load duration.
  • Overload Protection: Automatically shuts down for 1 second upon overload before retrying indefinitely.

Functional Features

  • High-Current Drive: Directly drives high-power DC loads like solenoid valves and relays.
  • Self-Recovering Overload: Senses overload, cuts off automatically, and attempts restart to prevent permanent damage.
  • Flexible Input: Input channels configurable as pure contact detection or DC voltage monitoring.
  • Expansion Capability: Supports connection of expansion modules to increase I/O capacity.

Application Scenarios
Ideal for applications requiring direct control of high-power DC actuators, such as compressor anti-surge valve control, large motor start/stop, and industrial furnace control.

Performance Parameters

  • On-State Voltage Drop: Maximum 0.4 V at 1A.
  • Off-State Leakage: Maximum 0.5 mA.
  • Contact Resistance: Maximum 1 kΩ in on-state, minimum 100 kΩ in off-state.
  • Environmental Adaptability: Operating temperature 0 to 60°C, storage temperature -40 to +70°C.

Material Composition
Features a high heat-dissipation metal housing and high-power semiconductor switching devices to ensure thermal stability under continuous high-current operation.

Structural Characteristics

  • 34-Pin Connector: Uses Burndy MSD 34 PM series plug connector blocks for reliable connections.
  • Dual Indicators: Terminal assemblies feature operating status (red/green) and channel status LEDs.
  • Modular Baseplate: Supports DIN rail or rack mounting.

Working Principle
The FBM42 uses solid-state power switching devices instead of traditional mechanical relays. Upon receiving a control command, the power transistor conducts to supply the high-power load. If current exceeds the safety threshold, the internal protection circuit immediately cuts off the output and attempts recovery after 1 second, achieving intelligent protection.

Installation Requirements

  • Must be equipped with dedicated terminal assemblies and 34-pin plug connectors.
  • High-current output circuits require wires of sufficient cross-sectional area.
  • Ensure adequate cooling space around the module.

Usage Precautions

  • Strictly prohibited to short-circuit the output beyond 50 A, as this will cause permanent module damage.
  • For inductive loads, connect a freewheeling diode externally to protect the module.
  • Regularly check the voltage drop and temperature rise of output channels.
