Functional Features Tuned specifically for heavy fuel oil flame flicker frequency. Soot-resistant optical window, resists signal attenuation from black carbon deposition. Frequency filter rejects steady hot wall radiation and flickering light sources that do not match oil flame characteristics. On-board signal strength meter, confirms reliable IR signal level during commissioning. Integral shutter prevents oil fume condensation on the window during off cycles. Compatible with all Honeywell RM7800 flame safeguard controls.
Application Scenarios Flame detection for heavy fuel oil commercial boilers Industrial oil-fired process heater flameout protection Marine oil burner boiler monitoring Spare part replacement for aging IR detectors in oil-fired installations

- Flicker detection band: 3–15 Hz, tuned for heavy oil combustion
- Soot attenuation resistance: Maintains detection with 50% window transmittance loss
- Mounting thread: 1 inch NPT
- Ambient temperature tolerance: -40 °C cold start rated
Material Composition Die-cast aluminum corrosion-resistant housing Heavy oil optimized pyroelectric IR sensor Soot-resistant sapphire window Stainless steel shutter mechanism High-temperature cable gland Nickel-plated screw terminals
Structural Features Cylindrical cast aluminum housing. Front soot-repellent sapphire IR window with internal shutter. Rear sealed terminal compartment. 1 inch NPT mounting thread. External hex nut for wrench tightening during installation.
Working Principle Heavy fuel oil flame emits characteristic flickering 4.3 μm IR radiation from combustion CO₂. Radiation passes through the sapphire window to the tuned pyroelectric IR sensor. The onboard frequency filter matches the received flicker against the known heavy oil flame frequency band; on match, the internal relay closes to output a flame present signal. On flameout, flickering IR signal disappears, the relay opens to trigger boiler safety shutdown. The shutter closes on burner off cycles, blocking oil fume condensation on the window.
Installation Requirements Mount the detector in a position where the full oil flame is in the field of view. Tighten into the burner sight port, angle the window away from direct oil spray impingement. Connect supply and output contact wires. Use the on-board signal meter to confirm IR signal level during commissioning.
Usage Notes Oil fume condensation on the window reduces IR transmission, clean the window monthly in heavy oil installations. Never angle the detector directly at the oil spray nozzle, unburned oil droplets deposit on the window. Pilot light only operation may fall outside the tuned flicker band, verify pilot detection during commissioning. Soot buildup on the shutter blade causes jamming, clean the shutter quarterly in heavy oil environments.
