Honeywell TC-ODJ161

Product Introduction This digital output card receives on-off commands from the C200 CPU, switching 24 V DC field loads including solenoid valves and indicator lights. Every channel includes independent optocoupler isolation, overcurrent short-circuit protection and state readback monitoring, designed for strong-interference industrial discrete control output loops.

Description

Honeywell TC-ODJ161

Technical Specifications

  • Channel count: 16 digital output channels
  • Output type: 24 V DC NPN low-side switch
  • Rated per-channel current: 0.5 A
  • Channel isolation: 2500 VAC optocoupler isolation
  • Backplane interface: C200 I/O rack bus
  • Operating temperature: 0 °C to +60 °C
  • Hot swap support: Yes

Functional Features 2500 VAC electrical isolation per channel, complete separation between field side and system side. Per-channel independent overcurrent and short-circuit protection, automatically limits current and latches faults on overload. Output state readback sampling, compares commanded state against actual circuit state, triggers alarm on mismatch. On-board LED per channel, displays output ON state. All output command frames carry CRC checksum, prevents communication errors from triggering unwanted field action. Solid state switching, no mechanical contact wear, suited for high-frequency load operation.

Application Scenarios 24 V DC solenoid valve and pneumatic valve coil drive Field audible alarm and status beacon control Intermediate relay coil drive loops Spare part replacement for digital output channel faults in legacy systems

Performance Parameters

  • Output response time: ≤20 μs
  • Overcurrent protection threshold: 0.6 A per channel
  • Fault reset time: ≤100 ms after software reset command
  • Off-state leakage current: ≤0.1 mA
  • Channel crosstalk attenuation: ≥-60 dB

Material Composition FR4 flame retardant PCB substrate Power NPN transistor array Optocoupler isolation drive devices Current sense resistors TVS surge protection diodes Gold-plated backplane edge fingers UL94 V0 flame retardant plastic front panel

Structural Features Standard Eurocard dimensions, inserts into C200 I/O rack slots. Front two rows of screw terminals silk-screened per channel number. Isolation barrier separates field output side and backplane logic side. Power transistor layout reserves copper heat spreading area, reduces temperature rise under full load. Front panel has one status LED per channel.

Working Principle The CPU sends output commands over the backplane bus. On-board logic drives the optocoupler for the selected channel, activating the NPN power transistor, pulling the field load circuit to ground to energize the load. Current sense resistor continuously monitors per-channel output current; when current exceeds the safe threshold, hardware current limiting activates, channel fault latch is set and sent to the CPU. Readback circuit compares actual output state to command state; deviation beyond range triggers a channel fault alarm.

Installation Requirements Total load current must not exceed the card overall current rating. Install independent fuse protection for each output group at field load distribution terminals. Route output cabling separately from analog signal cables. Test channel on/off action and short-circuit protection response during commissioning.

Usage Notes Never exceed 0.5 A per-channel rated current; overload causes power transistor overheating and failure. Inductive loads require flyback diodes installed across load terminals. Channel fault latch requires field short circuit resolution before software reset. Never connect AC high voltage to output terminals, high voltage directly destroys power transistors.
