Working Principle
The S30363 receives AC input power (single-phase or three-phase), converts it to DC bus voltage through an internal B6 bridge rectifier with integrated soft-start circuit, and drives the brushless servo motor through its IGBT power stage using space vector modulation at 62.5 μs cycle time. The cascaded digital control loops (current → velocity → position) provide precise torque, speed, and position control. The integrated STO function monitors safety inputs and disconnects torque-producing power when activated. Multiple feedback types are processed through the optimized resolver and encoder interfaces. The expansion card slot allows adding fieldbus communication for integration into higher-level automation systems.

Installation Requirements

  • Panel mounting in vertical orientation inside a closed switchgear cabinet
  • Use non-painted (conductive) mounting plates for proper EMC grounding
  • Ground bolt torque: 3.5 Nm; power connector torque (X0, X8, X9): 0.5 to 0.6 Nm
  • EMC-compliant shielding and grounding for all cables
  • 24V DC auxiliary supply from isolated power source (check voltage drop for brake/fan loads)
  • External fusing required: 6A time-delay fuse for AC supply (gRL/gL 400V/500V or class RK5/CC/J/T)
  • Ambient temperature: 0°C to +40°C at rated data; +40°C to +55°C with 2.5%/K derating
  • Altitude: unrestricted up to 1000m; 1.5%/100m derating from 1000m to 2500m
  • Wait at least 5 minutes after disconnecting supply before touching live sections

Usage Notes

  • Never undo electrical connections while the drive is live
  • Always measure DC bus voltage and wait until below 50V before handling components
  • Leakage current to PE exceeds 3.5 mA; PE connection must be doubled or use cable cross-section > 10 mm² per IEC 61800-5-1
  • Verify correct motor voltage and current ratings match the drive specifications
  • Back up drive configuration parameters regularly
  • Monitor thermal conditions during continuous operation at rated current
  • For motor cable lengths above 25m, install motor choke (3YL/3YLN) close to the amplifier
  • The STO safety assessment (EN 13849 / EN 62061) must be completed by the machine builder
  • Do not use the holding brake controlled by the S300 alone for functional safety applications
